Russia's Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK) has restarted its project to upgrade the third reheat furnace at its hot strip mill. The project is a part of the second stage of NLMK's technical upgrade program and it started in 2007. However, it was stalled due to the financial crisis.
Once completed, the furnace will be able to reheat 320t/hr of slabs and it will increase NLMK's hot rolling capacity by 0.2Mtpa. | 18-Mar-2010; Boliden AB; (Kokkola) Boliden has said that the Finnish harbour strike, now on its second week, will begin to have consequences for Boliden from the end of this week.
Th... Boliden has said that the Finnish harbour strike, now on its second week, will begin to have consequences for Boliden from the end of this week.
The strike mainly influences deliveries of raw materials to Boliden's two Finnish smelters - the zinc Smelter in Kokkola and the copper/nickel smelter in Harjavalta.
Stocks of zinc and nickel concentrates are sufficient to continue production through next week.
Lack of copper concentrates will, however, force Harjavalta to shut down its copper smelter on 18 March and the copper refinery on 19 March. Employees at Harjavalta will be temporarily laid-off beginning 25 March.
The strike has so far only caused limited effects to Boliden's customers. | 18-Mar-2010; Eramet SA; (Prony) In the annual results for 2009, Eramet provides a summary of the Prony project. In January 2009, a signature of agreement was signed to conduct exploration and potential exploitation of the Prony and Creek Pernod deposits by Eramet's hydrometallurgical process. However, when Vale Inco appealed against this decision, the Administrative Court of Noumea cancelled the agreement.
In 2010, Nickel-SLN will appeal in order to obtain the exploration permit required for the New Caledonian development project. | 18-Mar-2010; ArcelorMittal ArcelorMittal and Turkey's Dayen are to establish a joint venture to build a rebar production mill at Salaianiyeh in the northern part of Iraq to meet... ArcelorMittal and Turkey's Dayen are to establish a joint venture to build a rebar production mill at Salaianiyeh in the northern part of Iraq to meet the demand for reconstruction of the country.
The initial capacity of the new plant is estimated to be 0.25Mtpa. However, the final capacity is estimated to reach 0.5Mtpa.

Boliden has announced that the Finnish harbour strike, now on its second week, will begin to have consequences for its Harjavalta copper/nickel smelter from the end of this week. This is because almost all of the concentrates it treats are imported through the port of Pori. The company said lack of copper concentrates will force Harjavalta to shut down its copper smelter on 18 March and the copper refinery on 19 March. Employees at Harjavalta will be temporarily laid-off beginning 25 March.
AME is yet to adjust its production forecasts for the Harjavalta smelter.
